Lack of Communication

Communication is one of the most important elements of human relationships. Unfortunately this is one thing the college lacks. An important notice could be left unnoticed, for a very long time, and deadlines can come and go with few people knowing one existed. School assemblies are few and far between, (not that everyone turns out in their numbers anyway) and the notice boards are often overlooked, too cramped and unreliable, as students sometimes take down notices with one swipe of their hands. Too often, it’s a game of Chinese Telephone and "he say, she say" when it comes to important messages.

Man About College observed that the papers with information on students' upcoming Communication Studies oral presentations are posted on the lower floor of the administrative block. Man About College cannot decide if the move should be commended or reproved as it is somewhat safe from vandals, but is positioned out of the way and many students did not notice it until late. One student even missed their Oral Presentation. Like many other changes in this world, it might take an emergency or something worse, before the institution realizes that more efficient communication means are needed.

By the way, the upper six students leave on FRIDAY (yes this friday)

In other news: A source revealed that a certain individual once again showed his romantic sheen by travelling a great distance to deliver some items which our sources identified as chocolate cake among other things, as a pick-me-up for his sick other half. Man About College must commend this young man for going all out, once again. Evidently, he has no problem when it comes to communicating what is neccessary.

Though college's communication system could use some work, it's something one has to get used to as it's more or less the same communication methods that's going to be used when you enter university. School assemblies are virtually non-existent (thank God because they're waste of time imo), and all communication takes place between your lecturer, notice boards and the school's official website. Yes, notice boards are unreliable but one would think that someone at a tertiary education level would have enough common sense (and restraint) to know better than pulling down a notice. (Especially ones that are academically relevant.) Unfortunately, training yourself to look at the notice board (and NOT for ads like the Otha Endz or Follow Your Fashion) is just something that you'll have to get used to.

I agree that the commuication system in college could be improved. There are many ways in which it could be done however the communciation culture of the college is still in that of a school.

In the case of the Comm Studies orals though a notice was posted on both notice boards telling students where the notices for the appointments for orals could be found.

One person missing orals does not make a case. It makes a case for that student not taking his/her responsiblities seriously.

In this particular case it is my belief that students assume that they will be spoon fed rather than understand that they need to being proactive. Lecturers may have assumed that they are being heard and noted by giving out information at one class which probabably was poorly attended.

Nevertheless your point is well made

Unfortunately, the notice boards are often overlooked. The most popular one is the one on the lower floor, but that often causes a big congestion if more than 10 students stop to look at it as the passage is narrow.

It is true however that the student should have taken their responsibilities more seriously.
