And The Winner is............

Good night to everyone. Hope your weekend was good..Mine wasnt so nice but anyway onto tonight's topic.
Now unless you were living under a rock for the past two or three weeks you would have known that last night was the much anticipated 1st annual MISS SVGCC TEEN HERITAGE pageant and I must say after all the hype it did not disappoint.
The night started off much too late for my liking but once the ball got rolling everything flowed smoothly. The contestants came out for their introductory appearance and it was clear that the audience had their favourites, one particular contestant's posse even went as far as to make signs in support of her. This did not go unnoticed by the audience or said contestant I'm sure.
The ambassadorial speeches were well delivered, there was an old GHS girl, a skeletal Earl Kirby, even parnell campbell..it was absolutely wonderful.
There were highs and lows in the talent portion. Shavsha did a wonderful rendition of mama culture by anita franklyn. Ronika's talent was not as memorable. She did a monologue but sad to say its not much too mention.
Shanice however delivered a powerful speech of what it is to be a woman and she did nothing but stand in one spot on the stage yet she captivated the audience.
Austinsha also did a dramatization as a dying culture. I thought it was very clever that she used the death announcement from NBC radio as a part of her act but there was not much substance other wise.
Ashee, had that crowd from the moment she stepped on stage dressed as an old man. "Grandpa Ole Foot". Her performance was very comedic and she used many slangs that teens use. The crowd was roaring from laughter and she still managed to highlight history of the leaders of the past that made this country great.
The cultural wear/evening gown section saw some beautifully made dresses. My personal favourites were Ashee's and Shavsha's. Austinsha's fit very nicely also but I think the design could have been better but thats just my personal opinion. The concept of Ronika's dress was good but the actual outfit was not flattering at all. The huge fake flowers did nothing to accentuate her body but i think she tried her hardest to pull it off. Shanice had a lovely concept also but i think it could have fit nicer.
The interviews were overall quite well done, a few stumbles here and there but nothing as terrible as "Miss Global Warming".You all know who i'm talking about.
Before i get to the results, let me mention the guest artistes and there were many. We had Luta,Tabia and Skarpyon perform and although they were a bit long, they still had the crowd going. A job well done by the models and dancers and the PAS drama.

Fundraisers, Upcoming and Past

In the last post, Man About College got caught up in its cynical twist to everything and may have wrongly opposed the recent activities at the college. As a vigilant reader aptly pointed out, the clubs provided a service and the people simply enjoyed it.

Man About College understands that the SVGCC Environmental Club played their part in raising funds for Rodney King this Saturday by holding a Sponsor Walk. The walk which ended in a water baloon fight and treasure hunt and managed to raise about $500. According to Man About College's investigations this morning, people seemed to be satisfied with the limitless sandwiches and malt made available after the walk , regardless of how drenched they were when they left.

This Saturday is the Heritage Club's (good)turn with the highly anticipated Miss SVGCC Teen Heritage 2009. The news of inaugural pageant had many people murmuring for the past two weeks, and the usual ticket-hustling has started. Word around the hallways is that alot of people are wondering, why 40/40 and not the usual Pageant-Centre Peace Memorial Hall. Who do you think will win?

A Word From Our Sponsors...

Like every good politician... promises were made with so many convincing words leaving the crowd's mouth shut, eyes open and soaking up every word this time last year. And like every good politician, after about a term, the manifesto that the opposition and plausible supporters used to eagerly leaf through and fill themselves with false hope became forgotten... well the student council has managed to in a way bring us what they promised... "Casual Friday".

In a way because it wasn't totally their doing and also because we're only going to be allowed to wear a solid colour top and a long jeans pants. Interestingly, posters have been put up on the unofficial bulletin board (the pole outside the staff room) advertising mini-salon, bar-b-que, and all kinda thing... Do It For HIM! is what everyone is urging each other to do... Man About College will be standing by to see all the things college folks will be 'doing for HIM' on friday...

Speaking of liberal activities...Man About College has observed that for the past few weeks a certain student has been having a "Casual Everyday". Evidently... she has already found someone to do it for.

An Interesting Afternoon

Good night to all my readers. My humblest apologies for not posting recently but i've been very busy but tonight i felt i had to post. Today, the school was all buzzing with excitement. Why you may ask? Well for those of you who were under a rock these past few days , The modern languages club launched today. I must say they did it quite big. There was food and a small concert to hype up the school. Kudos to the sion hill government school for a very lovely performance and to there teacher who had the crowd going with her hip movements. The latin dance club did a little something which i thought was quite adorable, although it does seem that if you're in that group you should have a significant other with you as some of the moves are a bit risque. As usual, the school's resident singers did a wonderful job serenading the crowd.
But anyway on to the reason the majority of students attended the who shindig. THE AUCTION!!!. How often do you see an auction take please where you buy the company of people. Most of the students seem to be there to see someone be embarrassed, others to cheer on their friends. Now I was gonna put myself up to be auctioned but i chickened out at the last minute and decided to just watch. And it was most entertaining. A few of the persons being auctioned seemed to be crowd favorites as they had money being rained on them from the second they stepped on stage. Girls were battling for the guy of their choice and guys were screaming for the ladies that caught their eye. As i sat there, I thought to myself, these students have some deep pockets as i see them shelling out alot of money to get the one they wanted. All in all it was a very good afternoon and i'm sure plenty of money was raised for Rodney King. Great job students. I commend you.
Until next time

OHH. The Drama

Goodnight my fellow readers. I know this is a late post but I just could not resist updating you on this.
For those of you who read my little brother's blog MAC.. If you don't know what MAC is what rock were you hiding under since the beginning of the school year.Just when i thought this week was going to be as boring as some of the teachers, one of my faithful insiders gives me this little information.
In this most recent post on MAC, there was mention of a certain "ramping shop" which has made appearance in the school. Its speculated that bad bad things go on in there but I only report facts so the gossip is out of my area. The comments however are what has been causing this controversy. They mention that a certain student who is a pastor's son has been doing ungodly things in there. I personally think it was quite unnecessary to go into specifics to make his identity slightly known and apparently so did he.
He wrote a rebuttal to MAC's post that I have a feeling is going to morph into a battle of words. His rebuttal was one that may leave a few students in awe and a few scratching their heads. I must say I was quite amused when he referred to MAC as "a sick twisted phenomena that has become common to THIS modern COLLEGE society and has yet again discovered another way to distract students from fulfilling their purpose at the CC." His way with words is one that may make the bloggers who brought him into the equation regret their decision.
I must say congratulations to PRODIGAL who has successfully managed to belittle any credibility that was in the comments on MAC's post.
So goodnight to you all. We shall see what happens in school tomorrow.

For those of you who have not read his comeback here's the link.

Enjoy, I know I did.

CoLLege...yAWn

Ok so please dont hate me for not having posted in a while week but teachers really trying to crack the whip this week with the work and i have to admit its a bit draining. I dont have much to say tonight but I decided that you at least deserve to hear something.
So anyway parents day was Friday past and some lower six teachers actually decided to have class. Why? Students already stressed out having to deal with their parents but should they really have to put up with your class too. I think not. Speaking of parents day, there were no slaps, cussing, or bawling to be heard so i'm going to assume that things went well.
Like my title says, the school has been quite boring these past couple of days; the air conditioning is actually fixed and working. I was up there today and was pleasantly surprised to not be sweating bullets within the first five minutes. The rent-a-cops have cooled out but you know its only a matter of time before they feel its their need to "do their job" and no teachers are fighting over classrooms; and no one fighting period. Since when has the school been acting to perfect. Yawn. Start some drama please, its all becoming quite a drag.
I must say welcome back to a certain teacher who went on strike last week. You would have noticed some of her stupids typing away with nothing else to do. They seemed to have been quite happy with her reappearance because we all know what the alternative would have been.
Any way thats all for tonight, I know its a little pathetic but if you think there's something i should mention just let me know. Good night one and all.

P.S I think its time we start studying for exams, cant deal with an extra year in this school.

The NEw HOt HouSEs

Goodnight to all my readers. It seems like many of you were slightly distraught by my last post but hey i was only playing messenger.
Anyway onto tonight's topic. It seems like some of our prayers have been answered. Announcing the arrival of our new furnished match boxes. Not only are they small but they are also very hot (especially the one close to the copy center facing the road) and we now have new students in our classes; the flies that hound the tuck shop have decided that they want to increase their knowledge level so they have joined us to learn a thing or two. I remember the days when I use to go to the beach for a tan but now, there's no need. The sun shines straight into the classrooms, providing us with a sauna and tanner. Who would have thought that college would have its only little spa. ISN'T THAT WONDERFUL!!?
The smell is like rotting wood and the floor board are already squeaking. But werent these rooms built just a few months ago. Thats what i call slacking on the workers part. Seems like they were too busy leering at the college girls in their skirts and pencil foot pants to do the job right.
On a lighter, cooler note. The air conditioning unit in the library is finally fixed. But before you do a happy dance lets see how long it lasts before it breaks down again. Now we all know that if it were some other part of the school...lets for arguement sake say the staff room, that would have been fixed a long time ago.
Before i go i noticed that a certain class was standing outside said staff room for the whole period before lunch. I took a peek inside where they usually have class and saw all the chairs were gone.
What happened to the chairs?
Where was the teacher?
Why wasnt she there?
I guess i'll just have to investigate but something tells me there's some drama going on behind the scenes.
Well, Until next time behave yourself.
Oh last note Parents day is scheduled for Friday. I hope they dont wanna see any of my parents. But why would they i'm a saint after all.
